The War Between Jay-Z, Drake & Lil Wayne

Jay-Z has had an interesting relationship with Lil Wayne and Drake, which has stemmed over the last 20 years.

Initially, Weezy F. Baby considered Jay his idol and biggest inspiration - and almost signed to Def Jam and Rocnation / Roc-a-fella Records (Jay-Z's label) - before Birdman put a stop to it. Jay-Z mentioned this in a 2013 interview on The Breakfast Club with Charlemagne.

What’s Happening With Dame Dash’s Shares of Roc-A-Fella?

Jay-Z is staking legal claim to the master recordings of his iconic debut album ... and it's a "buyer beware" notice, of sorts, to anyone getting ready to drop more than $1 million to buy Damon Dash's share of Roc-A-Fella Records.

Jay's attorneys just made a legal filing that might normally fly under the radar, but here's why it's suddenly very relevant. As we first reported, Dame's third of Roc-A-Fella is going up for auction later this month, and the label's only real asset is Jay-Z's 1996 album, "Reasonable Doubt."

On Friday, the Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder hopped on Instagram with a post announcing he was selling his one-third share of Hov's freshman effort and explained he was only entertaining serious inquiries. "This shit is for sale 1/3 … only real inquiries only," he wrote under a picture of the album cover.

Judge Orders Dame Dash to Sell Roc-A-Fella Shares

A New York judge has reportedly ordered Dame Dash to sell his shares in Roc-A-Fella to pay a $823,000 judgment to movie producer Josh Weber.

This comes after Dame sued Weber for defamation and copyright infringement from a dispute over the 2016 film "Dear Frank." Dash was fired as the film's producer, and he claimed that Weber was trying to sell the film independently under the new title, "The List." This led to Dash's lawsuit against Weber, which he ultimately lost and was ordered to pay the six-figure judgment.

Jay-Z sold the rights to the Rocawear brand to Iconix Brand Group for $204 million. Jay-Z will retain his stake in the company and will continue to oversee the marketing, licensing, and product development.

If you were a fan of hip hop in the late 90s and early to mid-noughties, then Rocawear will need no introduction. Items from the fashion label, co-founded by rapper Jay-Z, were as common a sight in music videos as groups of scantily-clad ladies popping bottles of Cristal in a hot tub.
