What Happened To Russell Simmons And Phat Farm Clothing?

It's time for the holidays and Phat Farm is no-where around in 2019. Walking in to family members house on Thanksgiving wearing a new Phat Farm outfit had everyone talking. Not only that, you wished to open a gift from under the Christmas tree to find a Phat Farm shirt or coat.

Phat Farm Clothing is a division of Phat Fashion, which was founded in 1992 upon the inception of the “mainstream” hip hop movement. Before fancy headphones and expensive drinks Russell Simmons was making the big bucks from music and retail.

He was also a pivotal player in the so-called "urban" fashion movement of the late 1990s as the founder of Phat Farm, the apparel and footwear. However, a 2003 interview with Bloomberg Business stated that Simmons grew frustrated with being stymied into the ethnic brand category.

Simmons sold Phat Farm and Baby Phat to the Kellwood Company in 2004 for $140 million. Today, Phat Farm shoes perpetually remain on clearance at places like Sears and Kmart. We have selected a few online stores below to shop from. It's time to prep for the holidays, so be sure to select the correct style.

9 Women Accuses Russell Simmons

Russell Simmons was hit with nine new allegations of sexual misconduct after The New York Times featured a story with four women's claims on Wednesday (Dec. 13), followed by the Los Angeles Times with five more women coming forward the same day. Simmons denied the allegations, telling USA Today, "I vehemently deny all these allegations. These horrific accusations have shocked me to my core and all of my relations have been consensual."
Earlier this year, The Hollywood Reporter and the Los Angeles Times published two reports of sexual misconduct surrounding Simmons. He later stepped down from his various companies in light of the accusations.
Three of the new accusations include claims of rape from singer Tina Baker, music journalist Toni Sallie, and Sheri Hines from the all-female hip-hop group Mercedes Ladies. In light of these accusations, Simmons says he will "relentlessly fight against any untruthful character assassination that paints me as a man of violence. Russell Simmons Have Supporters Who Stand Behind Him

Russell Simmons Have Supporters Who Stand Behind Him

Russell Simmons is one of the latest people in entertainment to be accused of sexual assault. The mogul stepped down from his leadership role in all his companies amid the second allegation. This means he will not be apart of the forthcoming airing of HBO’s All Def Comedy.

The network announced that they’ll be wiping Russell’s name from the program, which he agreed to, TMZ reports. He didn’t want to hinder the show’s rating, but a lot of the production crew members are concerned that his absence will do more harm than good.

Russell Simmons Steps Down From All Companies

Russell Simmons is stepping down from his companies after being accused of sexual assault by writer Jenny Lumet. In a guest column in the Hollywood Reporter, Lumet accuses the Def Jam co-founder of forcing her to have sex in 1991.

In a statement, Simmons said he had a different recollection of their encounter, but said Lumet’s “feelings of fear and intimidation are real.” He apologized to Lumet, who is the daughter of director Sidney Lumet and the screenwriter behind “Rachel Getting Married.”

“There is so much guilt, and so much shame,” Lumet wrote in her column. “There is an excruciating internal reckoning. As a woman of color, I cannot express how wrenching it is to write this about a successful man of color. Again, shame about who I was years ago, choices made years ago. In this very moment, I feel a pang to protect your daughters. I don’t think you are inclined to protect mine.”

In addition to his music work, Simmons is a successful film and television producer and the founder of such clothing fashion lines as Phat Farm and Tantris. This isn’t the first time he has been accused of harassment or assault. Earlier this month, model Keri Claussen Khalighi accused Simmons of forcing her to have sex.

She said the businessman worked in conjunction with director Brett Ratner to lure her to his apartment. Another woman, Tanya Reid, also accused Simmons of pressuring her to perform oral sex on Ratner. Both men deny the allegations.

Simmons did say the culture is going through “a time of great transition,” and said he did not want to be a distraction from the work of his companies. He also plans to convert a studio he founded for yogic science into a not-for-profit center of learning and healing.

“The companies will now be run by a new and diverse generation of extraordinary executives who are moving the culture and consciousness forward,” said Simmons, adding, “As for me, I will step aside and commit myself to continuing my personal growth, spiritual learning, and, above all, to listening.”

During the All Def Digital Awards on Wednesday (February 22nd), Amber Rose made a huge announcement saying, "Do y'all know Ace of Diamonds? Well, I bought it." She continued to highlight the procurement of the popular Los Angeles gentlemen's club, saying,"So this is to every girl out there. Every stripper, y'all can one day be on stage with Russell Simmons, receiving an award."

According to SKWS Enterprises, the current owners of the celebrity hotspot say Rose's claim is "unequivocally false". The owners filed a lawsuit against the former VH1 Talk Show Host for slander and are seeking to recover one million dollars in damages for the alleged false claims.

Russell Simmons Sued

Russell Simmons may be finally cashing in on his the RushCard venture he took on back in 2003, but he's not getting out of the game without paying a few unsettled debts. On Wednesday, February 1, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau announced that it is slapping Simmons' UniRush company along with MasterCard, with a fine of $13 million over the well-publicized breakdown that left customers unable to access their money more than two years ago.

“The RushCard fiasco stopped people from accessing their money to buy food and pay rent,” said associate director of the nonprofit National Consumer Law Center, Lauren Saunders in a statement. The decision was made upon the center's determination that many of the flaws what led to over the 830 grievances filed against UniRush after the 2015 incident, were preventable. "The CFPB’s action will put $10 million back in the pockets of working families struggling to make ends meet,” Saunders said. The $3 million tacked on in addition to the $10 million settlement will go towards penalty fees collected by the CFPB.

Aside from the CFPB determining that customers were in many cases denied their funds, and had not been receiving adequate services, it was found that many customers were misinformed about their account balances, as was the case with some who figured they had more money than they had believed, due to UniRush documenting deposits multiple times, and others believing they had less than they actually had because of inaccuracies in MasterCard's communication with the company.

It is the second time in a year that UniRush has agreed to pay out restitution over the debacle. In 2016, Simmons' company was forced to pay $19 million following a class-action lawsuit that was successfully waged against him in a New York Court. Throughout, UniRush has continued to maintain that the incidents were nothing more than blunders, but expressed being content that they could meet the needs of their customers. “RushCard welcomes our settlement with the CFPB,” the company said in a statement. “We maintain that our company did not engage in any wrongdoing, and do not admit to such in our Consent Order with the CFPB.”

Earlier this week, Simmons received the good news that prepaid debit card competitor Green Dot Corp. had agreed to purchase UniRush for $147 million. The profit made on the sale should easily offset the total in lawsuit payments Simmons has now been ordered to shoulder.
