Nick Cannon Joins Black Lives Matter Protest

Cannon has released a series of politically charged spoken word pieces over the past few months, occasionally appearing with beads and a head wrap. Such was the case during Thursday's actions, after which he credited past Black Hollywood activists Harry Belafonte and Dick Gregory for their influence. "I like to practice what I preach so I'm in these communities constantly and taking meetings with district attorneys about criminal justice reform and prison reform. And it's so important, I mean, I've been given the spotlight so I want to say the proper things at the proper times," he told Entertainment Tonight. Dozens were arrested for civil disobedience offenses in the New York City rallies, before attention on them was lost to news of an assault at a protest in Dallas that claimed the lives of 5 police officers and injured half a dozen others.

The streets of New York City were no exception to the numerous locales that drew nationwide protests over the police shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, when on Thursday [July 7], demonstrations reared up from Union Square to Times Square. One such rally was led by America's Got Talent host Nick Cannon, who marched behind the banner of #BlackLivesMatter. Cannon is only one of scores of celebrities to speak out against police violence in the wake of Tuesday and Wednesday's shootings, turning the righteous direction he's recently set a path towards into action with thousands behind him.

Protesters Shut Down I-80

Races from all over America is boycotting business and traffic movement in and out of the city. More than 1,000 protesters marched for hours on city streets, shutting down Interstate 80 and stopping a train in the third night of demonstrations Monday over police killings in Missouri and New York. They confronted a line of police officers in riot gear outside police headquarters before heading to a BART train station, prompting authorities to close it. Protesters then headed west on University Avenue, a four-lane divided street to shut down Interstate 80 in both directions.

Some protesters managed to get around officers and onto the freeway but were forced back. Then protesters retook the highway, halting traffic in both directions. Dozens of protesters also marched to the railroad tracks, blocking an Amtrak train. A protester held up a sign “Black lives matter” in front of the stopped train.

The protests were peaceful in contrast to Sunday night when some protesters vandalized and looted businesses, lit garbage cans on fire and blocked a nearby freeway despite calls from many in the crowd for a “peaceful protest.”

(The Wrap-Up Magazine) The outrage over Alton Sterling's death keeps pouring out as his family and anyone who has watched the video of his murder by Baton Rouge police demand justice. What Roc Nation And The NFL Is Doing For Hadiya Pendleton

It's a good thing how Jay-Z is getting involved in our African American culture. It's time we slow down gun violence in our black communities. He is really using his voice to stand out behind his music while having the NFL to back him up.

Jay-Z's Team Roc and the NFL debuted a public service announcement that honors the life of Hadiya Pendleton, a young girl who was fatally shot in Chicago in 2013.

Hadiya Pendleton's family has continued to keep her legacy alive. The Chicago teen is the subject of Team Roc's latest PSA about putting an end to gun violence.

Pendleton is one of many stories of kids being killed by gun violence from all over the world. Pendleton was gunned down as she was spending time with friends at the city's Harsh Park.

The video titled "Hadiya's Promise" is narrated by her mother Cleopatra Cowley-Pendleton, who shared her daughter's hopes and dreams as well as her own efforts at social justice in her young years.

Why Prejudice Still Lives

(The Wrap-Up Magazine) I am a African American who was born in Mississippi. I have encountered various types of racism. One thing I have learned is that it's all in how you were raised. I get criticized because I am married to a white woman and have mixed children.

I have come to find out that there are more blacks prejudice than whites. For some reason, blacks believe that whites owe them something for bringing them here! But I say Thank You! Without the white man bringing our ancestors to America, I would not be able to own my own house website, or business.

When people talk about cops killing blacks, I turn the other cheek. Due to the fact that I feel cops are afraid of blacks just as blacks are afraid of cops. We are almost in a civil war, not because of whats going on, but how the media portrays it. Why is it than when a black person get shot by a cop it's blasted all over the media? But when the same thing happens to a white person, you hear nothing.

I'm not taking any sides, just giving my 2 cents on the matter.
