The War Between Jay-Z, Drake & Lil Wayne

Jay-Z has had an interesting relationship with Lil Wayne and Drake, which has stemmed over the last 20 years.

Initially, Weezy F. Baby considered Jay his idol and biggest inspiration - and almost signed to Def Jam and Rocnation / Roc-a-fella Records (Jay-Z's label) - before Birdman put a stop to it. Jay-Z mentioned this in a 2013 interview on The Breakfast Club with Charlemagne.

#NewMusic Lil Wayne Ft DMX - Kant Nobody

Lil Wayne is untouchable on his new single, “Kant Nobody” featuring the late DMX.

Opened with monologue by DMX, Tunechi delivers an abundance of witty wordplay over Swizz Beatz and Avenue’s haunting production. The track samples DMX’s 1998 posse cut “Niggaz Done Started Something” featuring The Lox and Ma$e.

Lil Wayne Shares His Top Five Rappers

Lil Wayne, whose list is quite a doozy, containing both the expected picks and some left-field surprises that actually make sense when you consider his own unique approach to the art of rap. Wayne gave his answer in a special edition of What’s Wright? With Nick Wright, a podcast version of the Fox Sports personality’s popular show.

Almost as well known for his affinity for hip-hop as Wayne is for his sports referencing raps, Wright offers his own list (a pretty humdrum collection including the usual picks: Jay-Z, Tupac, Wayne himself, Kanye West, and T.I.), which Wayne says he respects. Then Wayne starts off his own list with a pick that far too few people include for my taste, Missy Elliott. Vindication!

Lil Wayne Talks Jay-Z, Swizz Beatz and Money

Lil Wayne has had a pretty tough couple of years, but thankfully he's had some great friends to help him through it all — Jay-Z and Swizz Beatz.

"There's people like Jay-Z. He helped me when I was really, really, really down. Really, really, really down," Wayne said onstage in his address to the crowd. "Jay don't want me to tell nobody. That man helped me with my taxes. He's a real friend, y'all."

The Lavish lifestyle of Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne has completed many obstacles during his music career. Lil Wayne made his album debut in 1999, with Tha Block Is Hot, which was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

Lil Wayne became one of the top-selling artists in hip-hop in the early 21st century. Despite his success in the music industry, Lil Wayne's childhood experiences, like many other rap and hip hop singers, were far from perfect.

Lil Wayne Celebrates Packers Victory

The rapper was seen celebrating the Green Bay Packers’ playoff win over the Los Angeles Rams last night at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

The Packers crushed the Rams in a 32-18 victory that was powered by Weezy’s new Green Bay Packers anthem, “Green and Yellow.” The first song, debuted in Super Bowl XLV, was made to counter rapper Wiz Khalifa’s Steelers-inspired “Black and Yellow” song.

Did Lil Wayne Betray His Young Money Crew?

It was recently reported that Lil Wayne sold his masters to Universal Music Group for $100 million back in June of this year. After documents of the deal were revealed, the sale reportedly included the master of Young Money artists as well. The three prominent artists on that list are Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Tyga. Given all of the work and culture shifts that the four artists have created, $100 million seems pretty cheap for ownership of their sound recorded copyrights.

This news led fans to speculate which albums were sold within the deal. According to the documents, the masters include every Drake album aside from his 2020 releases. Every 2020 release from the OVO CEO is under his OVO imprint in conjunction with Republic Records. Republic is also a subsidiary of Universal Music Group. Every project from 2009’s So Far Gone to 2018’s Scorpion is reportedly included in Wayne’s Universal deal. On the other hand, all of Nicki Minaj’s albums have fallen under the Young Money/Cash Money imprint since her debut release, Pink Friday.

Lil Wayne Talks Which Jay-Z Album Was Most Influential

Wayne has apparently been a fan of Jay-Z’s for a long time and even credits the rapper for influencing his career. In a recent conversation with Lil Baby, Wayne reveals which Jay-Z album influenced his music the most.

Wayne sat down for a chat with Lil Baby as part of Rolling Stone‘s Musicians On Musicians interview series. Throughout the conversation, Wayne opens up about some of his musical influences and named Hov’s fourth studio album as his biggest inspiration:

Jay-Z, Life And Times Of Shawn Carter, plain and simple. It was the first album where I actually [bought] the car that the rapper was talking about. That was my album. […] Also, Jay talked so crazy. He went bananas on that album. I got lyrics from the album tattooed on me and sh*t. I have songs that are remakes of spinoffs of songs from that album.”

Lil Wayne Tops All Mixtapes For 2018

It's time to rate all mix-tapes that were released in 2018 from Lil Wayne, to Meek Mill. Over the past decade, mix-tapes have become just as important as albums.

New albums by your favorite artist are always exciting, but mixtapes can have their own appeal. A mixtape is sometimes part of a promotion for a larger upcoming project, or a way to hold fans over if an artist is busy and unable to release a full-blown album for the foreseeable future.
