Some people are poor because they want to be poor, believe it or not. Poverty is a great equalizer. No matter your race you have an equal chance to invest in your future. People like to deny it but most people aren't able to just pull themselves out of poverty just through sheer willpower.
Most politicians rarely use the words “poor” and “poverty” in their speeches, unless they intend to criticise the poor for their lot in life. Oxfam says the rich got richer in the pandemic, and the wealth gap is killing the poor.
