Can Rap Music Be Positive?

Many rap artists use their lyrics to comment on social and political issues, raising awareness about topics such as inequality, racism, poverty, and injustice. Many don't. 70 percent of Americans believed that rap had an overall negative impact on society.

Rap music, in-spite of the negativity and controversy that often surrounds it, can have a positive influence on listeners and expand their consciousness. It can reduce depression and anxiety, improve emotional expression, expand communication and interpersonal skills, and potentially lift one's self-esteem.

Rap music is a highly controversial genre. Its lyrics are often explicit and describe graphic images of violence, sex and drugs. Hip-hop music culture is a product of African American, Afro-Caribbean and Latino inner-city communities plagued by poverty, the proliferation of drugs, and gang violence.

I think the argument that Hip Hop is bad because it is a negative influence on youth is an extremely poor one, but trying to deflect to other genres that don't even come close. Rap music can also have such positive effects as improved cognitive flexibility, better working memory, and faster processing speed.

So, the young rappers had to have the 'can do' spirit in order to be heard. Every hip hop song or rap song contains something that we can learn something that can help us grow. The rap movement has a positive change on society because it exposes the hardships of discrimination, rappers have been known to give back to their communities.

It is like anything else in life. There is always pros and cons, good and bad.

So, do you think rap music can become positive? Or will it remain negative? Comment your answers below!

As for me, rap tracks are not always evil. Quite often it reflects concerns of the real world, and it provokes shifts, just like renewable energy thesis topics aim at solving pressing global challenges. What gets conveyed is even more important.
