LeBron James just became the first active NBA player to reach billionaire status while still playing. It was reported by Forbes that James' net worth surpassed the $1 billion mark after he earned $121.2 million in 2021.
The Akron, OH native has amassed immense wealth during his nearly two-decade playing career that has opened up many more opportunities off the court. LeBron has tallied $385 million in on-court earnings in addition to $900 million in off the court ventures.
At this rate, it's easy to see that LeBron James will be primed to become an owner of an NBA franchise when his playing days are over. "I got so much to give to the game. I know what it takes to win at this level. I know talent," he told reporters. "I also know how to run a business as well. And so, that is my goal. My goal is to own an NBA franchise, and it will be sooner than later."
