Beyonce got back in formation for her epic opening performance at the 94th annual Academy Awards on Sunday (March 27).
Introduced by Tennis legends, Venus and Serena Williams, Queen Bey performed her Oscar-nominated song “Be Alive” from the Tragniew Park Tennis Courts in Compton, California, where Williams sisters played growing up.
The performance began with Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton, the young actresses who portrayed Venus and Serena in King Richard, walking the streets of Compton. Bey donned a tennis green-colored gown and performed the powerful ballad alongside her female dancers and orchestra. The performance ended with a surprise cameo by her 10-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter.
During the evening, Bey also won Best Original Song for “Be Alive” from King Richard soundtrack, which earned her first Academy Award.
This marked Bey’s fourth Oscar performance. She previously performed “Vois Sur Ton Chemin” from the French film Les Choristes“, “Learn To Be Lonely” from Phantom Of The Opera, and “Believe” from The Polar Express. at the 2005 Oscars. In 2009, she performed a Dreamgirls medley alongside Jennifer Hudson and Anika Noni Rose.
