The nominations for the 2022 Academy Awards are expected to be announced in a few days on February 8, and anticipation is, as always, incredibly high. Looking at the Best Original Song category, it seems like the ninety-fourth Oscars will be chock full of pop stars vying for one of the most coveted prizes in the entertainment industry, which isn’t always the case. Two of the biggest artists in the business who are definitely in the running know each other very, very well, and they might end up competing against one another very soon.
Tracks by both Jay-Z and Beyoncé made the cut for the annual shortlist, which narrows down all submissions to just a few that voters can select from. The husband-and-wife duo didn’t work together on a project this year, but the two musicians have tunes in contention for a spot in the Best Original Song vertical, and there’s a real chance that they might both end up being included.
Beyoncé has been touted by many who closely follow the Oscars as a likely nominee, as her single “Be Alive” from the film King Richard has been a frontrunner for a spot in the Best Original Song field since it was released months ago. The singer has been attempting to earn a nod for many years, and she is long overdue for a chance to collect some gold.
Jay-Z is eligible with his track “Guns Go Bang,” which is featured in the movie The Harder They Fall. The tune also credits fellow rapper Kid Cudi and the film’s producer, director and writer Jeymes Samuel, who will likewise be nominated should Mr. Beyoncé land an Oscar nod.
