For many of you who do not know, lets read up on the legendary Freddie Mercury. He was a British singer, songwriter, record producer, and lead vocalist of the rock band Queen. Regarded as one of the greatest lead singers in the history of rock music, he was known for his flamboyant stage persona and four-octave vocal range.
Freddie Mercury died in 1991 from HIV/AIDS. Freddie was considered a god among singers, and he had an amazing near 5 octave range, ranging from a bass' F2 to a soprano's F6.
In 1987, Mercury was diagnosed as having AIDS and the band together made the decision to stop touring, making the concert at Knebworth on 9 August 1986 the last time that the four original members of Queen performed on stage together.

Before forming Queen, May and Taylor had played together in the band Smile. Mercury was a fan of Smile and encouraged them to experiment with more elaborate stage and recording techniques. He joined in 1970 and suggested the name "Queen".
Influenced by the hard-edged blues-based style of rock acts such as Cream and Jimi Hendrix, Freddie Mercury began singing with bands in London. He also became friends with guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor of the band Smile, and in 1970, when Smile's lead singer quit, Freddie replaced him.
The single "Killer Queen" from Sheer Heart Attack reached number two on the British charts, and became Queens first US hit, reaching number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. Freddie Mercury also led a solo career and served as a producer and guest musician for other artists.
As the frontman of Queen, Mercury was one of the most talented and innovative singers of the rock era. Born Farrokh Bulsara in Tanzania, Mercury studied piano in boarding school in India, then befriended numerous musicians at London's Ealing College of Art.

Despite what a dramatic scene in Bohemian Rhapsody may tell you, Mercury's decision to pursue a solo career was not out of spite for his fellow bandmates. Queen drummer Roger Taylor actually went solo first, releasing his 1981 album Fun in Space before Mercury even signed his record deal.
