Selena Gomez Talks Justin Bieber, Mental Health And Her No. 1 Album

In an interview this week with NPR's Lulu Garcia-Navarro, Selena Gomez got extremely candid about her new album Rare, her mental health and the relationship she was in with Justin Bieber.

Asking about Gomez’s number-one hit “Lose You to Love Me,” Garcia-Navarro got the singer to confirm what fans have long speculated: that the song is about Bieber. After Gomez explained that the song was a goodbye song, Garcia-Navarro responded, “Saying goodbye to Justin Bieber, who I’m assuming you’re speaking about.” Gomez replied, “You had to get the name in, I get it.”

Gomez also went deeper into the dynamic with Bieber.

“I do feel I was a victim to certain abuse,” she shared.

“You mean emotional abuse?” Garcia-Navarro asked, to which Gomez replied, “Yes, and I think that it's something that — I had to find a way to understand it as an adult. And I had to understand the choices I was making. As much as I definitely don't want to spend the rest of my life talking about this, I am really proud that I can say I feel the strongest I've ever felt and I've found a way to just walk through it with as much grace as possible.”

Last September, Bieber wrote an Instagram essay in which he spoke about how he “abused” relationships, particularly with the women in his life.
