Rakim is considered one of hip-hop's greatest emcees of all time. Along with writing lyrics, he's writing his life story. He really set a standard for hip-hop MC-ing that only few have really just touched the precipice of.
Rakim is the nephew of the late American R&B singer and actress Ruth Brown. He grew up in Wyandanch, New York on Long Island, and became involved in the New York City hip hop scene when he was sixteen years old. Eric B. brought him to Marley Marl's house to record "Eric B. Is President" in 1986.
