Rapper Kendrick Lamar is now deep in the real estate game. The 30-year-old plucked a few dollars from his money trees and bought a Calabasas, Calif., home for $2.65 million.
Here are five fun things to know about the hip-hop artist’s move into the home-buying biz.
1. Lamar the landlord?
Although it’s a sweet spot, Lamar apparently won’t live there. Sources tell TMZ it’s an investment property. So, yes, the chart-topping musician must have the landlord gene in his DNA.
2. The ‘Humble’ hit-maker is a smooth negotiator
The six-bedroom, six-bath home first came on the market last summer for $2.89 million, according to property records. The price dropped to $2.79 million last fall, and Lamar picked it up late last year for $2.65 million. So he scored a nice price break on the property.
3. The home itself looks like a hit
A part of the exclusive community of Calabasas Park Estates, the 5,433-square-foot home includes a master suite with double-sided fireplace, a gym, family room and guest suite. The open kitchen has granite counters and a breakfast nook. The resort-style backyard comes with a swimming pool and spa, dining area and kitchen, fire pit and canyon views.
4. A-list neighbors
Even if the rapper isn’t moving in, there are plenty of celebs to call on for a cup of sugar. Most famously, reality TV star Kim Kardashian and husband Kanye West bought a nearby Hidden Hills estate in 2016 for $20 million. Kris Jenner also lives in the area, as does her daughter Kylie Jenner. Kardashian and Kris Jenner also invested in condo units in Calabasas. Other celebs who have called the area home include Drake, Jennifer Lopez and Dwayne Johnson.
5. Straight out of Compton
While it’s not clear where the rapper rests his head, Lamar grew up in Compton, Calif. His 1,200-square-foot childhood home was on the rental market for about $1,800 a month in 2016. The rapper also dropped $550,000 on a house east of Compton for his parents.
