Girl Found Living With Monkeys

Indian police are reporting that a young girl believed to be 10 to 12 years old, now dubbed "Tarzan Girl," was found living in a forest with a group of monkeys. When the little girl was found, she was unable to communicate vocally, was found with no clothes on, and abnormally thin. That was this past January.

After the little girl was discovered, she was taken to a hospital in Bahraich, a town located in North India. Woodcutters working in the area she was found in spotted the little girl running around with monkeys, and informed the police shortly after. The little girl was reportedly rescued by a police officer named Dinesh Tripathi. Tripathi noted that the woodcutters said, "the girl was naked and was very comfortable in the company of monkeys." He also said when they tried to rescue the girl, "they were chased away by the monkeys." Officer Tripathi also said she was rescued in the Katarniya Ghat forest. When the officer tried to call the little girl "the monkeys attacked him but he was able to rescue the girl." According to Tripathi, "he sped away with her in his police car while the monkeys gave chase."

Once the little girl was taken to the hospital, doctors examined her to check out behavior patterns. According to D.K. Singh, the superintendent of the government-ran hospital, the young girl behaved like an animal, running on her arms and legs and eating food off the floor with her mouth. Doctors reported that the little girl has started eating with her hands and walking normally. According to Singh, "she is still not able to speak, but understands whatever you tell her and even smiles."
