Mid-West rapper Freddie Gibbs was formally charged with sexual abuse of a defenseless or psychologically impaired person on Tuesday, [August 16] after two and a half months in custody over allegations that he sexually assaulted two women in Vienna in 2015. He will face up to 10 years in an Austrian prison if convicted.
Gibbs was taken into custody before a show in France back in early June. The warrant for his arrest demanded that he be extradited to Austria, where he is alleged to have knocked a woman unconscious before imposing his sexual will on her. The incident is reported to have occurred while he was on tour in 2015. Gibbs' defense team has provided a statement in which they express confidence that he will be acquitted of wrong doing on account of a lack of "scientific, physical, or credible evidence." They cite that he has yet to have been afforded the opportunity to present evidence backing their own case, and have encouraged the public to refrain from rushing to judgement, stating: “While Freddie Gibbs was charged with an offense today, it remains only an allegation, and it does not in any way change the actual facts that Freddie Gibbs is 100% innocent."
