Who Working Overtime

Unemployment Rate in the United States decreased to 7 percent in November of 2013. The U.S. economy added 203,000 jobs in November. Its at the lowest level since November 2008, as more people said they got jobs and joined the labor force.

Unemployment occurs when people are without work and actively seeking work. Attitudes toward overtime and hours of work vary greatly from country to country and between different economic sectors. Laws that determine under what circumstances overtime must be paid to an employee are enacted at both the state and federal levels.

Forty hours a week isn't much time to accomplish your mound of endless tasks at work, making the need for overtime a reality for most. As with many agencies, special event overtime work is doled out based on seniority. The Act does not require overtime pay for work on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, or regular days of rest, unless overtime is worked on such days.
