Atlanta Pimps Make Huge Profits

The survey revealed that 65 percent of the pimps in the Atlanta study group were black as well as 33 percent of the sex workers. This figure was second only to the Latino pimp population of 11 percent of the pimps and 10 percent being Latino sex workers. The report also stated that pimps are technologically savvy and use social networking to stay ahead of law enforcement.

An Urban Institute study of sex trafficking from 2003–2007 ranks Atlanta as the No. 1 city in the nation for sex trafficking. The study estimates that pimps in Atlanta make as much as $33,000 a week. The study examined sex trafficking in eight cities: Atlanta, Dallas, Denver, Kansas City, Miami, Seattle, San Diego, Calif., and Washington, D.C., to try to determine the size and scope of human trafficking and its economic impact. The results are startling and offer a dark view of Atlanta, the home of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

21 Savage Arrested, Faces Deportation

So what does this mean for 21 Savage? The Grammy-nominated Atlanta-based rapper 21 Savage was arrested by U.S. immigration officials on Sunday, who said he was illegally in the country and a convicted felon.

The rapper, whose real name is Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, came to the United States from the UK as a teenager in 2005, overstaying his visa to settle in Atlanta. 21 Savage Facebook page shows several upcoming concerts, was in custody in Georgia and faced deportation proceedings in federal immigration courts.

The rapper’s lawyer, Dina LaPolt, did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters on Sunday, but told the entertainment publication Variety that Abraham-Joseph was a “role model” who was working on financial literacy programs aimed at helping underprivileged youth.

An ICE official told the Atlanta Journal Constitution that when Abraham-Joseph was arrested in 2014, ICE was not aware of his immigration status. It only learned later that he is allegedly from the UK.

From a young age, Drako was in-and-out of juvenile detention, as he became involved in drug dealing and robberies in order to support his siblings. In order to escape the hardships of life, music became Drako’s therapy, and he moved around his neighborhood rapping for any audience he could find.

Arrest Made In Lil Wayne Tour Bus Shooting

The man accused of firing multiple shots at rapper Lil Wayne’s tour buses was trying to get higher status with his gang, according to his arrest warrant. Jimmy Carlton Winfrey, 25, of Atlanta, has been charged with numerous felonies, but was not in custody Thursday afternoon, Cobb County jail records showed.

No one was injured on April 26 when multiple shots were fired at two buses traveling on I-285 near I-75, according to Atlanta and Cobb police. About a dozen people were on the buses around 3 a.m. after a performance at the Compound nightclub on Brady Avenue, police previously said. It was not known if the rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, was aboard either of the buses.

On May 21, Cobb police secured an arrest warrant for Winfrey, charging him with aggravated assault, terroristic threats and acts, criminal damage, possession of a firearm by a felon, criminal gang activity, reckless conduct and discharging a weapon near the street.

Winfrey was allegedly driving when he fired the shots from his vehicle, causing more than $20,000 worth of damage to the buses, according to police. He allegedly fired the shots to gain “street cred,” police said.

“Said accused did commit said act in order to gain status in his criminal organization by a committing a high profile shooting of a rival rap artist,” the warrant states. “Said accused has associated himself with known blood gang members in the Atlanta area.”

In October, Winfrey was convicted of drug possession in Florida and sentenced to two years on probation, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.
